Exercise 10 from the field working book.

I am an eighteen year old Caucasian girl. The fixed position that will affective my research the most is my age. Most of my subjects are elderly residents of the residence. The rest of my subjects are in their late twenties, thirties and forties. I am much younger than everyone at my field site. I know some of the people there, mainly a couple relatives of mine. However, my grandmother has made sure every person in the residence knows who I am and what I am doing. I have already been welcomed into the subculture however I am not a complete insider.

I have always been shy. In high school, I would always sit in the corner with my small group of friends. I could listen to the conversations going on at my table, but I could also hear everything going on at other tables from the usual who's dating who, the sports, and who got arrested. I think this will help me because of what I have already observed at my field site. Even with the elderly groups are established. At one table they will talk about grandchildren, at another they will talk about religion.
