My first experience

As soon as I walked in the door of Little Sisters of the Poor the Jeanne Jungnan Residence, I was met with a warm home-like feel. The walls were a calm tan. This color encompassed me as I walked to the dining room which was my destination. As I walked closer the sounds of laughter and clattering dishes invaded my thoughts. The dining room opens up before me. The earth tone scheme continues here. These colors convey a story of compassion and caring. After feeling tense before coming here, I could feel my muscles relax.
I was genuinely surprised by the Sisters. They always came in to check on the residents. They also came up to me. They would ask me about my day, my research, and my future plans. They seemed genuinely interested in my project. I was also surprised by how few stares I got. This probably happened because my grandmother lives here. I like to say my grandmother is like a teenage girl, she always knows the latest gossip.
I was intrigued by Mother Mercy. Every home has a mother. The Mother is the head nun. When I pictured a Mother, she was older the others and she would most likely been there the longest. However, Mother Mercy was the youngest of the tree nuns I had met that day. She is only 44 years old and has only been at the Jeanne Jungnan residence for nine weeks. This got me interested in the process of becoming a mother. I am also curious to find out what she thinks of this residence.
I was disturbed by the funeral room. I was disturbed by this because every room I saw had a warm, comfortable feel, but this one was dark and depressing. I also found it disturbing how the feel of the place changed so dramatically. The hallway outside the funeral room was the same cheeriness. But once you walked into the funeral room  you were met with all the sadness and death that room saw.

  1. I proofread this several times. However I made a mistake. The residence is the Jeanne Jugan residence.

  2. The color theme is interesting. All of the colors made you feel comfortable and relaxed except for the colors in the funeral room. I can just picture this change of mood, when the warm feelings evaporate and the chills creep in.

  3. I think it's interesting that the Mother is only 44 years old. I would have definitely imagined an older women who was more experienced than the sisters. I wonder if any of the sisters are upset about the fact that a younger woman is the head of the home, especially seeing as she's relatively new there.

  4. I would've thought the same thing you did about the Mother. Every show I have ever watched has had a Mother that is much older than the rest of the nuns. I also like how calming and home- like it is in the facility. Some of the residences I have been to for older people are dank and not very homey. I would have been depressed by the funeral room as well, especially after the cheeriness of the rest of the residence.

  5. The funeral room description makes me wonder how the sisters deal with the passing of one of their own.
